12.23.18 - Activity: Learning Outcome 7

Today we decided on the given amounts of grant money. It was super exciting and a really great form
of service. It definitely taught me how to persevere through a process with so much growth like this
one. I used Learning Outcome 7, and I hope that I continue to find things like this that I can show
commitment towards.

12.16.18 - Creativity: Learning Outcome 7

Today I had another meeting with the Greater Houston Community Foundation. We decided on the
three final organizations that we will be donating our grant money to in order to help decrease the
amount of literacy among toddlers in the Greater Houston area. Analyzing each organization has
taught me a lot, and it has made me realize even more how important literacy among toddlers is in
Houston, in Texas, in the U.S., and the rest of the world. If I did not have teachers or an environment
that helped me learn how to read when I was young I would not be able to do anything that I am
doing today. I could not be part of this leadership group, it would be very hard to have any leadership
roles, and I would not be at the level of schooling that I am able to be at today. I definitely felt like I
was using my creative side when thinking about the ethics and choices and actions.

12.9.18 - Creativity: Learning Outcome 6

Today I had another good meeting with the Greater Houston Community Foundation. We decided to
focus on the issue of illiteracy among toddlers in the Houston area. We chose this because we thought
it is important that we make sure the children in our community gain as high of an education as
possible from a very young age. Part of what we talked about was how while we will be affecting
only the kids in the Greater Houston area, this is definitely an issue of global significance that needs
to be taken seriously. We talked about how there are many countries around the world that lack
children education, there are millions of children who cannot read, and we learned even more through
our background research. I practiced creativity today because I had to make a visual representation of
what we had learned as a group through our research. I feel like I used Learning Outcome 6 by
focusing on an issue that has global significance.

11.18.18 - Service: Learning Outcome 3

Today was the first meeting for the Greater Houston Community Foundation Teen Leadership
Program. It feels really great to meet since we have not met since the summer. I enjoy working with
the Greater Houston Community Foundation because it acts as a form of service and works with
other nonprofit organizations to better the Houston community. I feel like I am making a great
difference and for the next few months I will definitely be working on distributing the given grant
money to an issue that all of the team leaders find important in the Greater Houston area which is
why this particular meeting pertains to Learning Outcome 3, which is demonstrating planning the
initial parts of a fieldwork experience. I am very excited for the next few months, I enjoy learning
about new ways to practice problem-solving skills, and I enjoy getting to participate in community
service activities that I feel make my community a better place.

10.22.18 - Activity: Learning Outcome 5

Volleyball practice was good today, we definitely worked really hard and I sweat a lot. Today was all
team building so we did a lot of group exercises that were skill-based. It was super helpful to work
with my team on improving our skills. It was obvious today that I used Learning Outcome 5 by
demonstrating the skills and recognizing the benefits of working collaboratively. It is very different to
improve my skills in a group as opposed to by myself or with just my sister like I was doing over the summer. I think there are benefits to working both in a group and alone, but working together really helped me stay engaged and motivated during all of the practices. Especially being in volleyball, we focus so much on cheering each other on and encouraging each other to reach our full potential. That is part of why I love volleyball so much, and it makes playing the game so much more fun.

9.26.18 - Activity: Learning Outcome 2

I had volleyball practice today and working using Learning Outcome 2, I demonstrated my challenges that
I had last week, I worked hard at the skills I needed to improve on, and I definitely learned some new
skills in the process. I worked harder this week for sure, and I really enjoyed noticing my improvement,
even if it was a small amount. I am beginning to catch up to where I was before the summer, and I am also
learning new skills from Coach each day. As this is an activity, I also demonstrated physical activity with
my team which was a lot of fun. We are beginning to get our team dynamic, and doing a lot of
team-building exercises which will be crucial for our performance throughout the season.

9.12.18 - Activity: Learning Outcome 7

Today I had dance practice and I am officially an ensemble guest member! This means I am a guest
member of the high school company and we have our own performance at the end of the school year. It is
definitely more of a responsibility than just taking classes, but I do think this opportunity helped me use
Learning Outcome 7 of recognizing and considering the ethics of my choices and actions. When offered
the position in the company, I did have to think about the rest of my priorities and decide if it was a good
idea, especially being in my junior year of high school which is considered the busiest year of high school. It would be a lot more to take on, plus I would still need to dedicate enough time to participate in volleyball. It was a hard decision, but it was definitely worth it. This is another activity, and another sport which I really love to take part in.

9.4.18 - Activity: Learning Outcome 1

Today was the first day of volleyball practice. It was really great to start practicing again and I was really
excited to meet our new coach. She is very nice and I can tell that she is really going to help me achieve
the different learning outcomes and just improve my skills overall. Although I practiced during the
summer, I have noticed that my skills are not where they used to be. There is lots of room for
improvement and I am excited to get better. I used Learning Outcome 1 in order to identify my own
strengths and develop areas for growth, meaning I was able to look at what I needed to improve on, look
at what I was doing good at, and work collaboratively with my coach in order to come up with a solution
as to how to improve my skills. This being volleyball practice, our use this as an activity, and as a form of
exercise.
